Comments:
One of Mexico's most beautiful waterfalls, the Salto de Eyipantla (Eyipantla waterfall) drops the Rio
Grande de Catemaco by about 50 meters (165 feet) on its rush to the Rio San Juan. Its torrential waters
spread almost 40 meters (132 feet) wide and have invited 10s of 1000s of visitors, including several movie
companies, to contemplate this magnificent view.
A community has grown around the fall, providing basic touristic services and souvenir shops. A pair of
bridges lead to a lookout point overlooking the falls and the Tuxtlas landscape or more than 200 steep steps
to the waterfall´s base. The name does not come from Egypt but stems from the Nahuatl language,
meaning 3 furrows. Obviously the waterfall has chewed those furrows into one magnificent curtain.
