One of the many wonderful ways to to enjoy Catemaco is to venture on a lancha from
Sontecomapan. A short drive or pirata pickup truck taxi from Catemaco lands you at the
Sontecomapan embarcadero, where you can catch a colectivo boat to La Barra. Or
you can rent a whole boat for 100 pesos and up.
Leaving the Embarcadero through a mangrove channel, the wide lagoon beckons with
sights of numerous seabirds, shore villas and fresh sea breezes.
Once at La Barra, beach comb the inviting playas or take a dip in the languid waters.
Careful, though!, there are no lifeguards and occasionally rip currents idle along the
shore. Finish your stay with a banquet of fresh seafood at the many palapas or
restaurants, then hail the next water taxi for your return to the Embarcadero.
