As told to the webmaster by Captain X, longtime Catemaco resident
.......................... it is the Laguna Amolapan at the entrance to El Cortijo from the highway. This Laguna
was stocked, as a “criadera para cocodrilos” a long time back, maybe 15 years. It was never
properly managed. One of the crocs killed one of Gonzalo’s cows; calf maybe, but none the less
dead; damn cow shouldn’t been down there anyway. The majority of the crocs were removed
(sadly, as I liked having them there); some to Nanciyaga as I understand, but a few remained. Last I
knew, there was at least one biggun still there – last year.
On a side note, one of the same idiots that was involved with the croc plan, released a bunch of,
several dozen or more, boas in the same lagoon; a year or two ago as I recall. You don’t transplant
boas. They decided to look for greener pastures, or whatever boas look for, and of course attempted
to cross the highway. In so doing, they provided a diversion for the local motorists who kindly ran
over them whenever the opportunity was presented. We counted more than a dozen dead in the road
in a three day period
