Zapoapan used to have only houses decked with palm fronds, so
to differentiate it from other Zapoapans the village added
"de Cabañas" to its name. Formerly the heart of Catemaco´s coffee
country, the village has had to do some painful adjustments to the
drop in coffee prices.
