La Candelaria is the heart of southeastern Catemaco, bordering on the municipio of Hueyapan de Ocampo,
including the communities of Ahuatepec, La Candelaria, y San Juan Seco de Valencia.
These are impoverished agricultural communities, planting mostly corn, some coffee, and beans. Cattle also
play a role and so did marijuana until the Mexican army stopped that with a firefight.
The terraceria is passable, first entering Ahuatepec (337), then La Calendaria, then San Juan Seco (1060),
and continuing to Sancuavital, Zapoapan de Amapa, La Gloria and terminating in Juan Diaz Covarrubias, all
in Hueyapan.. It´s a pleasant roundtrip from Catemaco, about 38 miles. Stop at Tia Linda´s just southerly of
Covarrubis to eat a memela. It was big enough for me and my dog for the next two days.
