The coast of Catemaco extends 18 km (11 miles) from near Playa Escondida to El Carrizal. The  stretch
between La Barra and El Carrizal is only accessible by boat or ferry, or high lift vehicle during the dry
season.

La Barrra at the confluence of the Gulf and the Laguna is the most visited beach. Playa Escondida ranks as
the most visually beautiful beach, despite a death defying series of steps to access it.. Playa Jicacal, off the
same road leading to Playa Escondida, is my personal favorite.

All beaches are surfable. None offer life guards, and rip currents are common
