Catemaco is built on the floodplain nexus of sloping volcanoes and a lake. So naturally all the rain water
running down the volcano slopes wants to merge with Laguna Catemaco.

In the past, there probably were a few arroyos that abetted the rain. Nowadays, unique construction
techniques and innovative zoning are accomplishing the same.

The photos below are possibly of one forgotten arroyo that haunts modern Catemaco. From the hills it
meanders through, over and under various streets, businesses and houses to reach its goal. On its way
it floods most sewer pipes, picks up tons of garbage and sand and proudly rejoins the waters of Laguna
Catemaco.

The arroyo mouth is well camouflaged to protect the sensibilities of tourists. Several giftshops, a bar and
the Tuxtlas most notorious disco are built right on top of it.
