The Mexican National Institute of Anthropology & History lists about 5000 places
of historical interest in Veracruz. Less than 2000 have been catalogued. Several
hundred have been excavated.
The quantity is simply overwhelming and funding to do more is simply not
available.
Los Tuxtlas abound with archaeological sites which are either ignored or
haven´t been discovered yet.
