Ángel R. Cabada is a municipio in central Veracruz state, Mexico, south of the port
of Veracruz, along the Gulf of Mexico.
The municipio was created in 1931 and named after Angel Rosario Cabada
(1872-1921), a local agrarian leader. The only major town, also named
Angel R. Cabada, had a population of 10,830 in 2000.
Economically the area focuses on agriculture, livestock raising and gravel mining.
Touristically, the town offers several hotels, restaurants and numerous balnearios.
A small section along the Gulf is integrated with the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere.
Finds from a pre-hispanic settlement at El Mesón are displayed on the town square,
including a stela inscribed with one of the oldest dates in the hemisphere.
Geographically, the 2 small rivers of Canes and Tecolapan cross the terrain. Laguna Mahajual near the coast
is one of several small lagoons in the area. Highway 180 is the main artery, with a spur at El Tropico leading
to the Gulf coast and Catemaco, via Montepio.
